Light as an Art Form

LED lighting offers unlimited design options. This light has spectrum range allowing the turn of a dial or press of a button to change the color of walls, ceiling tiles, accent objects or mosaic panels.

Imagine a wall mounted installation of multiple four-block color panels in a pediatric waitng area. At the press of a button, visitors both young and old could paint with light.

LED light can escort patients through corridors by washing walls with changing colored light, which can be synchronized to music or time. Patient room ceilings can become interatice using LED light panels. Patients can change the tile colors using a remote control or the tiles can be synchroinzed to patient selected music.

Fiber optic light can help turn ceilings into starry skies. Accent objects can be elements of fun and surprise that set the mood of a room.

Solar Art Glass

Glass designs may contain photovoltaic cells that store solar energy causing the glass to change colors based on stored energy levels.  This kinetic artwork has endless possibilities (change the exterior color of a building, fuel a windmill, light a stairwell) as it is beautiful, as well as educational and environmentally conscious.

Participatory Projection Art

Endless opportunities exist for participatory art projects that engage viewer allowing them to patient with their shadow or draw with a beam of light. Our comprehensive understanding of interactive LED lighting opportunities bring colorful motion, time or sound triggered kinetic art options to healthcare while our technical knowledge allows us to incorporate interactive projection software into our art programs incorporating entire body art participation.  Some of these interactive programs can aid in physical therapy development.

Backlit Ceiling Photography

Locating images on ceilings can be appropriate when patients are required to remain still durn and after procedures such as in CT Scan rooms, MRI procedure rooms, Cath Labs and Dialysis areas. Creating the illusion of windows or skylights in otherwise high tech interior spaces can help patients relax. This positive distraction offers patients a visual escape. Nature images add warmth other sterile environments.

Digital Art

Digital art offers infinite possibilities for locale specific dynamic art providing personal choice, flexibility and and opportunity for shared resources. Digital wall displays include software templates that allow facilities to change images periodically or to add current images immediately. Digital patient room and exam room art can be easily customized and updated. Digital art programs can offer many benefits including:

DAS has developed digital art components for multiple hospital art programs. Our process is customized to meet the needs of each client and can include:

• Identifying the goals and intended use of the digital art equipment
• Researching equipment and vendors
• Presenting options that address the unique goals and challenges of the facility
• Coordinating with vendors, artists, hospital staff (including IT department),  community organizations and others involved in the creation of the digital art program.
• Providing templates for ongoing maintenance and utilization of digital art program to ensure program goals remain in forefront
