Northeast Georgia Health System

North Patient Tower Gainesville, Georgia

9 of 22

Art Challenge:  To surround patients, visitors and staff members with visual reminders of the naturally unique elements and aspects of life in Northeast Georgia. Throughout the interior and exterior hospital journey, viewers were to experience life in Gainesville, Georgia including glimpses of Lake Lanier, the Smokey Mountains, Georgia Wildflowers and song birds, orchards, both apple and peach, horses, wildlife, seasonal beauty and the nearby rowing venue .

Art Solution:  DAS coordinated and facilitated multiple art committee meetings to gather input regarding preferred art mediums and subject matter. The team determined photography to be the preferred project art medium. DAS selected images for the main gathering spaces on floors 1–6, with decidedly different local subject matter on each floor depicting the many different landscapes, flora and fauna found in Northeast Georgia.  The varied images helped to identify different hospital units and served as natural way finding elements. Each “subject” then continued to be illustrated in a variety of ways throughout the public corridors on each floor. Visitors now travel amidst awe-inspiring images of familiar local landscapes as they move from floor to floor, beginning with Georgia songbirds on the first floor, Smokey Mountain streams and skylines, Dogwoods through the seasons, Camellias, Georgia wildflowers and Lake Lanier.
