Winchester, Virginia

Architect: Perkins and Will

22,000 square feet, Total Art Count: 92 pieces, Art Budget: $42,162 Timeline March – May 2011

Amidst the rolling black rock mountains and bright green pastures of Frederick County, Virginia, sits Valley Health’s Winchester Medical Center. The 411-bed hospital is a regional referral center offering a broad spectrum of services. When WMC opened the Heart and Vascular Center, they turned to Distinctive Art Source to create a patient based art program that would enhance the healing environment while supporting the care path of diverse patient populations.

DAS worked with the team at Winchester to create a dynamic, community invested, multimedia art program that celebrated the beauty of Frederick County, Virginia through the eyes of local artists. This art program would serve as an art model to be applied not only to the new patient tower but also to the existing 701 bed regional medical center.
